Kampong Malaysian Pop Up

5782 Main Street, Basement Unit, Elkridge, MD 21075

Kampong means "village," in Malay. Growing up just outside of Kuala Lumpur, my parents have always had a hard time finding Malay food (nevermind if it's good or not) in the US. Doing it partially for them, I host this pop-up to get in touch with my roots. It also helps that I happen to love the defining features of Malay food. Featuring notes of spicy, salty, sweet, and sour, Malay cuisine to me, is a marriage of Indian, Thai, and Chinese cuisines but yet - distinctly different. 5 course menu. Unfortunately, I am unable to accomodate dietary restrictions for this event.

Roti Canai with Curry
a traditional Indian flaky bread with a simple red curry for dipping

Char Kway Teow

a Chinese thick noodle stir fry with a ton of veggies

Hainan Chicken

a tender poached chicken dish with hot rice, cold cucumbers, soy sauce and chili sauce for an interesting hot/cold contrast

Bak-kut-teh

a fragrant herbed pork stew that heals the soul

Pandan Creme Brulee

ok, I took some fusion liberties here! Pandan is a leaf that is one of the signature tastes of Malaysia
